Information and Advice:

Older people ring or come into our office to
seek information about a variety of problems.
Volunteers are required to identify the problem
and where possible provide information or
signpost accordingly.
Volunteers should have good communication skills
both oral and written. They should be able to
fulfil general clerical duties such as using the
photocopier and filing. All training will be
provided.

Shop Assistant:
Age Concern, Battle area
Assisting the shop manager to sort, size and tag
donated goods and place neatly on rails. Assist
and serve customers.
Volunteers should be trustworthy, polite and
friendly and enjoy working as part of a team.

Toe Nail Cutting:
Age Concern, all across East Sussex
Older people often experience difficulty
reaching their feet so cutting toe nails can
become a problem. After training, volunteers
carry out simple toenail cutting in client's
homes or in designated venues. More complex foot
care is never undertaken.
Volunteers should be reliable, honest, patient
and responsible with good listening skills.

Home from Hospital:
Age Concern, all across East Sussex
Volunteers visit people in their homes after
their discharge from hospital in order to offer
practical and emotional support for a short term
(4-6 weeks). You may have to do some shopping,
collect prescriptions or other light tasks
making the client's life a little easier.
Volunteers need to be trustworthy and reliable
with good listening and communication skills.

Befriending Volunteers:
Age Concern, all across East Sussex
Volunteers befriend older people living alone in
their own homes in order to provide
companionship for a specified period of time.
They assist older people in something of their
choosing which will make their life more
pleasurable or grant them a greater degree of
independence. Examples could be joining the
local library, trips to the shops, restoring
contact with lost friends.
Volunteers need to be trustworthy and reliable
with good listening and communication skills.

Xtrax Young People's Centre:
Xtrax Young People's Centre has been running
a breakfast club since last September and now
need to increase their team of staff. The role
will involve serving breakfast, greeting young
people as they arrive and cleaning and washing
up. Hours are 8.45 - 10.30, Monday to Friday, or
how ever many days you can offer.
They also have a new opportunity for a volunteer
with computer skills to work as an administrator
for the breakfast club, helping young people
with their CV, letters and completing electronic
forms. Hours: 9.00 - 11.00am two days a week.
